Dinesh Karthik handed over the captaincy to Eoin Morgan
Dinesh Karthik has decided to give up the captaincy of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He told the team management about his decision. Karthik expressed his desire to hand over the captaincy to England limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan. Today (Friday), Morgan will lead the team in the match against Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi. Morgan was playing the role of vice-captain till now.
Dinesh Karthik's captaincy was being criticized for the team's poor performance so far. Karthik informed the KKR management that he wanted to hand over the captaincy of the team to Eoin Morgan to focus on batting and contribute more to the team's objective.
KKR CEO Venky Mysore said, 'We are lucky that we have leaders like DK (Dinesh Karthik). He has always put the team first. It takes a lot of courage to take a decision like him. We are surprised by his decision. We respect their wishes. We are lucky that 2019 World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan will now lead the team.
Mysore said, "Karthik and Eoin did a great job together during this tournament. Even though Eoin is handling the captaincy, it is a one-way exchange of roles and we hope that this change will work smoothly. '
"On behalf of everyone associated with Kolkata Knight Riders, we thank Dinesh Karthik for his contribution as captain over the last two and a half years and wish Eoin all the best," he said.
?? "DK and Eoin have worked brilliantly together during this tournament and although Eoin takes over as captain, this is effectively a role swap," says CEO and MD @VenkyMysore #IPL2020 #KKR https://t.co/6dwX45FNg5— KolkataKnightRiders (@KKRiders) October 16, 2020
