M14 : 3 Young Indian players sink CSK ship
Match 14 of Dream 11 IPL saw the unexpected performances from young Indian players. 3 youngster, Priyam Garg, Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad scripted the 7 run victory of Sunrisers Hyderabad over Chennai Super Kings. An 18 year old from J&K, a 19 year old from UP and a 20 year old from Punjab script a win against the most experienced side in IPL. Truly a tournament where talent meets opportunity.
David Warner won the toss and elected to bat first. First time in Dubai, a captain opted for bat in this IPL. But it was Chennai who made Warner's decision of batting first wrong with some top class bowling and fielding.
Deepak Chahar got rid off Bairstow in very first over. Manish Pandey looked good for his 29(21, 5 fours), but got out to Shardul Thakur. David Warner was looking to play long but in 10 overs with only 63 on the board, he tried to accelerate in Chawla's over but was unable to do so. Faf du Plesis took another spectacular catch of him at long-on boundary. On the very next ball in the same over, there was a mixup between Kane Williamson and Priyam Garg for a single and CSK saw the back of Kane Williamson.
All the CSK fans were thinking that they have match in their hand, but today talent meets opportunity. Priyam Garg 51(26 balls, 6 fours, 1 six) and Abhishek Sharma 31(24 balls, 4 fours, 1 six) joined hands and stiched a match winning partnership of 77 runs in just 43 balls. Abhishek Sharma hit Ravindra Jadeja for a reverse sweep four and a six over deep mid wicket. Earlier in the partnership Abhishek Sharma was the aggressor, and then Priyam Garg took over and played stots all around the ground. Priyam Garg stole the limelight in this match. Priyam Garg was the captain of India U-19 world cup team and showed why he was highly rated batsman in that team. Due to this partnership, Sunrisers scored 101 in their last 10 overs.
Chennai Super Kings required 165 to win this match. They are the most experienced team and one would expect them to play like champions. They have proper batsmen till no.8 where Dwayne Bravo would bat and their number 9 and 10 (Shardul Thakur and Piyush Chawla) are also capable of hitting big in the slog overs. But don't know why Chennai opt for defensive approach. They don't have the likes of Hardik or Pollard who can score 80 in 4 overs, so they have to be more aggressive in their batting approach. Shane Watson failed once again. Bhuvneshwar had upper hand in this rivalry in the past and once again it proved to be vital. Bhuvi removed Shane Watson for 1(6). CSK's no.3 & 4 scored 8 and 3 respectively. Ambati Rayudu was making his comeback and Kedar Jadhav has been promoted at no. 4. CSK team management back their experienced players to come good in these situations but we all think that they need one or two young players in the team who can play with more freedom.
CSK were 42 for 4 at one stage. Ravindra Jadeja 50(35, 5 fours, 2 sixes) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni 47 off 36 tried their best to chase the target. But due to lack of urgency in the first half of the chase, they have a humongous score to chase in last 7 overs. Rashid Khan bowled a tidy spell of 12 runs. His spell turned out to be a game changing spell. because due to hamstring, Bhuvi was unable to complete his full quota of 4 overs. So, Abdul Samad bowled the last over. CSK needed 29 in last over. They did score 21 but fell short of the target. MS Dhoni was seen exhausted during the run chase. His throat became dry and got treatment from physio in 19th over. Age is a just a number though, sometimes it shows that Dhoni needs to change his batting formula of taking game deep. He has to bring his big hitting shots from 12th or 13th over, in place of waiting for the 17th or 18th over.
