M9 : Samson, Smith & Tewatia star in Emphatic Royals Win
It was a Blockbuster. What a match!!!!!!! In the Match 9 of Dream 11 IPL 2020, we witnessed the highest run chase ever in IPL history. Rajasthan Royals chased down the 224 run target in 19.3 overs.
First things first, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to bowl first. The boundaries are small here in Sharjah. In their first match Royals scored 216 in the first innings and CSK scored 200 while chasing. So this time they decided to chase whatever they have to.
Kings XI Punjab were quick to grab the opportunity and scored 60 runs in powerplay. KL Rahul (69(54), 7 fours, 1 six) and Mayank Agarwal (106(50), 10 fours, 7 sixes) went on scoring at brisk rate even after the powerplay. They stitched together the 183 run partnership in 16.3 overs. This is highest ever opening partnership for Kings XI Punjab in their history.
Mayank was brilliant and outplayed his partner in quite a some style. He became the second centurian of this year's IPL. He played shots all around the ground. He hit sixes on the front foot pull, over covers, over long off, over long on. Nicholas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell gave the finishing touch and KXIP scored 223 for 2 in 20 overs.
The target was steep and the Royals needed the good powerplay to remain in the game. They have gone with Jos Buttler (4) and Steve Smith (50(27), 7 fours, 2 sixes) as their opening pair in this game. Sheldon Cottrell removed Jos Buttler early in the innings. After Buttler's departure, last match hero for Royals came to the crease. Sanju Samson scored 85 off 42 balls with 4 fours and 7 sixes.
Rajasthan Royals scored 69 in their powerplay. The stage was set and both the Royals were in good touch since last match. To chase the target their approach was clear. They didn't repeat the mistake that CSK done, to take the chase deep. They were brilliant in scoring at above required run rate. When Steve Smith got out on the last ball of the 9th over, the scoreboard read 100 for 2.
Rajasthan Royals think tank promoted Rahul Tewatia, the batting all rounder, up the batting order. He was the left handed batsman and Kings had 2 leg spinners. But the move backfired big time in first part of his innings. Rahul Tewatia scored 8 runs in his first 19 balls. It added extra pressure on Sanju Samson but he did well to hit occasional boundaries. But the required rate crossed 16 RPO. KL Rahul brought back Shami who removed Sanju Samson on the very first ball of his spell.
Just when everyone was thinking, Kings XI Punjab will win this contest, the second phase of Tewatia's innings started. His last 12 balls yielded 46 runs and his wicket (18.104.22.168.22.214.171.124.0.6.6.W.). When he got out. Royals needed 2 off 6 balls. Tom Curran hit a four over covers and Royals chased the target.
Sanju Samson was declared Man of the Match for his brilliant knock, but Tewatia deserved it today for his not give up spirited knock. This is cricket at its best.
